Hello Magda,
We had a fantastic time in Venice, we know it so well. We have returned 2 inches shorter (distance walked) and 3 lbs. lighter (energy expended). My Mother enjoyed a post-birthday lunch with 3 Italian friends of mine who came from Vicenza on Sunday. We found the flat ideal, simple and quiet, away from the tourists but easy to reach anywhere by foot or on the vaporetto which is close-by! It is very convenient for the local shop and the shops in via Garibaldi. No long walking with heavy food bags! While out there I went to Filippi Editore (recommended to me by one of our committee who is Venetian) and bought "Curiosità Veneziane" by Giuseppe Tassini. We were fascinated to read about the family Grandiben, the palazzo and of the church San Martino and all the surrounding calli and canali! I remember seeing a sepia by the famous artist Walter Sickert of San Martino when I went to a special exhibition of his work "Sickert in Venice" at the Dulwich Art Gallery, London, earlier this year. He must have painted it from the 2nd floor of the Grandiben! Vittoriana was very kind and helpful. I will certainly tell people about Grandiben when they are looking for somewhere to stay in Venice.

You are also only a couple of minutes’ walk from the vaporetto stop of Arsenale from where regular boats take you the whole length of the Canale Grande. I truly recommend it…
